Appointment Information

Taking your homeopathic medicine:

  • When you receive your remedy through the post, read the instructions carefully.
  • Try to avoid any food, drink (such as tea/coffee), tobacco, toothpaste (you can get non-mint flavours), other medication or anything with a strong flavour or smell 15-30 minutes before and after taking your remedy. This is because they can antidote homeopathic remedies.
  • Your dosage will be clearly indicated on the label or will have been given to you by your homeopath. If you have any questions, please contact clinics@homeopathy-uk.org.
  • Try not to touch the remedy by hand. Dispense it from the bottle into the cap and then from the cap into your mouth or under your tongue.
  • Try to store the remedy in a cool, dry place away from bright light and strong odours (such as essential oils or cleaning solutions).
  • Do not stop taking any other medication that has been prescribed for you (for example, by your GP) unless specifically advised to do so by them.

What to expect:

  • A lot depends on your individual situation and if your condition is acute (such as a high fever or teething pains) or chronic (more long term/ongoing illness). In chronic disease, changes are likely to happen more slowly and more gently.
  • It sometimes takes time to find the best remedy and therefore patience is needed. It is likely that benefits will be felt quite soon after starting treatment, but sometimes it can take a long time to rectify chronic diseases that have taken years to develop.
  • As part of the homeopathic reaction, you may observe a slight heightening of your current symptoms in the first two weeks following the homeopathic remedy. It is also possible that old symptoms return briefly following a well-chosen homeopathic prescription. All responses are transient in nature.

When to contact your homeopathic practitioner:

  • You notice an aggravation of your symptoms that is not tolerable and does not settle within a few days.
  • If new symptoms appear that you are unable to tolerate until your next appointment.
  • Old symptoms return that are not short lived or become intolerable and you do not feel able to wait until your next appointment.
